A mother and her son use a boat as means of transport in Can Tho city centre.

Can Tho, south-west of Ho Chi Minh city, is the largest city in the Mekong Delta.

The city is surrounded by rivers and is famous for its floating markets.

During its rainy season, which lasts from May til November, the city is often flooded.

In recent years, constant heavy rainfall combined with flood-tide have resulted in  severe flooding in the city centre, causing disturbance in everyday life and making it difficult for inhabitants to travel within the city.
